The following factors could affect Italian markets on Friday.

(*) ENERGY
Italy is considering increasing its gas storage capacity by
7 billion cubic metres to increase energy security and reduce
the risk of rationing during the winter, Il Messaggero daily
reported on Friday, adding that the decision will be in the
hands of the new government, likely led by Giorgia Meloni.
ECONOMY
ISTAT releases August retail sales data (0800 GMT).
Bank of Italy releases September data on Target 2
liabilities and European Central Bank funding to Italian banks.
DEBT
Treasury announces sale of 12-month BOT bills, with relative
amounts to be auctioned on Oct. 12.
COMPANIES

The Tuscan lender's 2.5-billion-euro capital raise, expected
to be launched on Oct. 17, could be postponed to next year, Il
Sole 24 Ore and other dailies reported on Friday, citing worries
by a consortium of banks guaranteeing the recapitalisation about
a lack of demand among investors.
The capital hike could be postponed to December, MF daily
wrote, while La Stampa reported that the lender's CEO is still
confident about meeting the current deadline, and hopes to sign
deals with cornerstone investors by next week.
On Thursday, the CEO of the third largest Italian lender
Banco BPM, Giuseppe Castagna, reiterated that MPS has never been
a target for his bank.

The bank may sign a partnership deal over its merchant
acquiring and POS management business, which could be worth
around 100 million euros, Il Sole 24 Ore daily reported on
Friday citing rumours. A choice on the strategic partner could
be made by the end of the year, the paper said, adding that the
potential deal caught the eye of both domestic and foreign
fintech groups, including France's Worldline WLN.PA , which
would be ready to enter exclusive talks.

A Court in Genoa rejected the appeal by Carige's shareholder
Malacalza Investimenti against the appointment of the new board

STELLANTIS SLTA.MI
The carmaker had a 32% share in Italy's car market in
September, according to Reuters' calculations. Industry-wide car
sales rose 5.37% year-on-year last month, the final data by the

The European Union's car market is on track to shrink this
year, the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA)
said on Friday, forecasting a 1% dip to 9.6 million units in a
downward revision from an initial projection for a return to
