U.S. stock indexes fell on Wednesday as investors locked in profits after a
strong 2023 and awaited the Federal Reserve's December meeting minutes for clues
on its interest rate path.  .N 
    
    At 13:40 ET, the Dow Jones Industrial Average  .DJI  was down 0.39% at
37,566.73. The S&P 500  .SPX  was down 0.48% at 4,719.84 and the Nasdaq
Composite  .IXIC  was down 0.82% at 14,645.077.
