    MORE RESTRICTIONS: The government announced further
tightening of restrictions on Thursday as numbers of new
infections had stopped declining and hospitals remain full near
capacity.
    It ordered contacts between people not belonging to the same
family are kept to a minimum, and more than one family should
not meet indoors.
     Hotel lodging will be strictly limited to people who can
prove they are on business trips, in order to halt families and
groups booking mountain holidays using looser previous wording
of restrictions. It also banned nearly all operation of ski
lifts, already banned for downhill skiers, to cut the number of
visitors in resorts. 
    It has also shortened the minimum period between two antigen
tests people can take for free to three days from five.
    
    PROTEST: A group of restaurant owners has called a protest
for 3 p.m. on Friday in Prague against the latest restrictions.
    
    MONETA ON PPF BID: Bank MONETA's board  is expected to
commnent on a takeover offer by PPF Group, which has offered to
buy as much as 29% of MONETA stock and proposed subsequent
takeover by MONETA of PPF's Czech and Slovak assets including
Air Bank and consumer lender Home Credit units. 
         
    02 PROFIT ABOVE: Fixed and mobile operator O2 Czech Republic
 SPTT.PR  on Thursday reported a 5.2% rise in fourth-quarter net
profit, slightly above estimates on stronger-than-expected
revenue.

    CHINA UNHAPPY OVER NUCLEAR TENDER:  China protested on
Thursday against an agreement among Czech political party
leaders not to allow Chinese firms to take part in a tender to
build a new nuclear power plant on national security grounds,
the Chinese embassy in Prague said.

    COVID-19: The official death toll from COIVD-19 reached
16,072 on Friday, rising by 128 on the day, according to Health
Ministry data. The figure includes 54 deaths reported on
Thursday and the rest for previous days as reports come in with
a delay.  
    The country, with a population of 10.7 million, has had one
of the highest cumulative per capita death rates in Europe.
    The health ministry recorded 7,937 new COVID-19 infections
on Wednesday, up from 7,517 new cases reported on the same day a
week earlier. 
    In total, 972,642 infections have been recorded since March.
Hospitalisations stood at 5,856. The government has said no
significant easing of restrictions could be expected before the
number of hospitalised patients drops to around 3,000.
    The ministry reports 250,964 vaccine shot administered,
including 28,120 people who received two shots.

    CEE MARKETS:  The crown retreated on Thursday as the region
mostly weakened on the back of global equities sell-off, with
the Czech currency shedding gains after it tested the
psychological 26-per-euro level for the first time since the
coronavirus outbreak.
