POLITICS
Italy will protect the autonomy of the MTS bond trading platform should a merger between Euronext ENX.PA and Deutsche Boerse DB1Gn.DE take place, Treasury Junior Minister Federico Freni said on Wednesday.
Borsa Italiana, part of pan-European operator Euronext, has long been a sensitive asset in Italy as it controls MTS, where €2.7 trillion of Italian government bonds are traded.

ISTAT releases May manufacturing business and consumer confidence (0800 GMT).
ISTAT releases April producer prices (1000 GMT).

Italian Treasury offers up to €10 billion in 5 BTP e CCTeu bonds. 

COMPANIES  

ENI ENI.MI
The Italian energy group is not part of any consortium interested in acquiring the country's former ILVA steelworks, a spokesman for the company said on Wednesday, denying media reports.

EDISON EDNn.MI 
French utility EDF has postponed to 2027 plans to sell a stake in its Italian subsidiary Edison as the disruption to liquefied natural gas supplies due to the Iran conflict drags on, a Reuters exclusive said on Wednesday.

     The lender os building the rapidly-growing practice of significant risk transfers deep into its bank lending operation, as it seeks to undercut competitors in its core markets, Bloomberg reported on Thursday. 
"We have been working to evolve our use of SRTs from being purely a capital efficiency tool into something that directly improves the competitiveness of our bankers when they originate loans,@ Stefano Chiarlone, head of balance sheet management at UniCredit in Milan, told Bloomberg in an interview.

Possible merger talks between the two banks have intensified, Corriere della Sera reported on Thursday, adding that Goldman Sachs has seemingly joined Banco BPM's historic advisors Citi and Lazard.

CEO Alessandro Melzi d'Eril, who was appointed in October following MPS' takeover of the merchant bank, may leave his job, Il Giornale daily reported on Thursday, adding that he remains fully in charge and no decision has yet been taken. 
   
(*) BANCA IFIS IF.MI 
The bank said on Thursday it would sell asset management company for non-performing loans ARECneprix to Prelios for €30 million. The transaction will result in a capital benefit of around 10 basis points of CET1, it added.

(*) RECORDATI RECI.MI  
Black Mountain, a vehicle linked to takeover bidders CVC Capital Partners and Groupe Bruxelles Lambert (GBL), has bought around 603,747 Recordati shares, or 0.29% of its share capital, the Italian drugmaker said on Wednesday.

If Ferrari wanted to grab the world's attention with the Luce, its first all-electric car, mission accomplished - even if much of the reaction has been shock and outrage, filling social media with unflattering memes. 

(*) INWIT INWT.MI
The long-term contract Fastweb had with Inwit, from which it recently exited was "no longer economically sustainable", Fastweb CEO Walter Renna was quoted as saying in Thursday's Il Sole 24 Ore daily. He also said that, given Inwit's importance,  Fastweb was available at finding solutions that took into account the current economic context.  

TECHNOGYM TGYM.MI
The billionaire former Glencore CEO, Ivan Glasenberg, has doubled his stake in the Italian fitness equipment company to 10.017%, Italy's market regulator Consob said in a filing on Wednesday.
(*) In a statement of intentions to market regulator Consob, Glasenberg said he was acting alone, may consider further share purchases, and does not intend to propose changes in the company's board.

The Italian gas distributor said on Wednesday it had appointed Pierre La Tour as new CFO, with effect from June 1.
       
SS LAZIO LAZI.MI
The Italian Serie A soccer club said on Wednesday it had parted company with manager Maurizio Sarri by mutual consent.
