POLITICS

The government approved on Friday a decree postponing by six months a 2-euro tax on small parcels from non-EU countries, designed to impact Chinese e-retailers, until July 1, 2026.

Rome also revised rules on enhanced voting rights to prevent leading shareholders from forcing the hand of minority ‌investors in takeover bids aimed at de-listing companies.

The foreign ministers of the G7 group of nations called on Friday for an immediate stop to attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure in the Iran war.

ECONOMY

ISTAT releases February producer prices data (0800 GMT).

DEBT

(*) The European Central Bank is determined to prevent any energy-driven inflation from broadening out, but it is too early to discuss dates for possible interest rate hikes, French central bank chief Francois Villeroy de Galhau told Italy's La Stampa daily in an interview published on Monday.

Global ratings agency Moody's on Friday slightly cut Italy's real GDP 2026 growth forecast to 0.7% from 0.8%, in its periodic review of the country. In its baseline scenario, the agency considers a relatively time-limited conflict in Iran, under which Italy's real GDP growth would reach 0.8% in 2027. Moody's also lifted its 2026 inflation forecasts to 2.1% from 1.8%.

The agency - which has Italy on a 'Baa2' rating and a stable outlook - said the gradual fiscal consolidation path outlined in the government's medium-term fiscal framework is credible and achievable. However, Italy's growth outlook is susceptible to a more adverse scenario of protracted conflict, given its relatively high exposure to energy imports from the Gulf region, it added.
