DEBT

ECONOMY

The Italian economy posted modest growth in the first quarter, supported by the Winter Olympics in February which drew a major influx of tourists, the country's central bank said on Friday.

COMPANIES

UNICREDIT CRDI.MI

(*) The Italian bank on Monday will outline "an approach to value creation" for Germany's Commerzbank CBK.DE, the Italian bank said as it believes the German lender is insufficiently prepared for future challenges and overly focused on short-term delivery.

Italy is concerned UniCredit could offer to move its head office to Germany to ease Berlin's opposition to a takeover of Commerzbank, three sources familiar with the matter said on Friday, despite the Italian bank ruling that out.

MONTE DEI PASCHI DI SIENA BMPS.MI

Board members from the slate proposed by the outgoing board could vote in favour of Luigi Lovaglio's new term as CEO after their own candidate was defeated, Il Messaggero reported on Sunday. In return, they would expect the chairmanship to go to the outgoing board's candidate Nicola Maione, the daily added.

Negotiations on the issue are ongoing, according to Sunday's Corriere della Sera. Lovaglio's backers are set on installing their own candidate Cesare Bisoni as chair, but could offer a deputy chair position to their opponents, the newspaper said.

Corriere della Sera and la Repubblica both said in their Sunday editions that a board meeting to vote on the chair and on the powers of the CEO is expected on Thursday.

MPS' top shareholder Delfin took part in last week's vote on the renewal of the board, backing Lovaglio, after the European Central Bank signalled it would have been "unconceivable" for the bank's largest investor to abstain from the vote, La Stampa reported on Sunday.

TERNA TRN.MI

Board member Stefano Cappiello will resign, effective on May 5, as he has been designated to sit on the board of Eni ENI.MI, the Italian grid operator said on Friday.

ENI ENI.MI, TERNA

Giuseppina Di Foggia, nominated by the government as chair of Eni, is unwilling to give up a 7.3-million-euro severance package as outgoing CEO of Terna that would be incompatible with her new position, Corriere della Sera daily wrote on Sunday. If the stand-off cannot be resolved, another chair may be picked for Eni, with minority shareholders proposing Emma Marcegaglia, the paper added.

(*) The Italian Economy Ministry said in a statement on Sunday that the severance package would not be paid in the event of a transfer to another state-controlled company recalling rules set in 2023 aimed at curbing these payments. The Ministry is a shareholder in both Terna and Eni through state lender CDP.

(*) ENI ENI.MI

The Italian oil and gas group said on Monday it made a new giant gas discovery in the Ganal block offshore Indonesia. Preliminary estimates indicate in-place resources of approximately 5 trillion cubic feet (Tcf) of gas and 300 million barrels, it added in a statement.

(*) SAIPEM SPMI.MI

The Italian energy servicer said on Monday it had signed a 700-million-euro contract with Eni ENI.MI for the construction a new biorefinery in Priolo, in Sicily.

Ferragamo Finanziaria, the holding company of the Ferragamo Family and controlling shareholder of the fashion group, said on Monday it had appointed Fabrizio Freda, a former Estee Lauder President and CEO and current member of the BlackRock board of directors, as special strategic advisor to the company, contributing to strategic decisions and the strengthening of the operations of the group and the family's other businesses.

(*) CAR SECTOR

Sales of fully electric cars in Europe's main auto markets jumped by almost a third in the first quarter of 2026, as drivers looked for alternatives to combustion engines after the war in Iran caused the highest spike in petrol prices in years.

JUVENTUS JUVE.MI

The Turin club won 2-0 at home against Bologna on Sunday night, consolidating their fourth position in the Serie A standings, which would secure them a spot in next season's Champions League.

LAZIO LAZI.MI

The Roman side won away 2-0 at Napoli on Saturday night, de facto ending the Neapolitans' slim hopes of defending their Serie A league title.

(*) FERRETTI YACHT.MI

After rising to just over 23% in the luxury yacht maker last week after a partial voluntary offer, Czech investment firm KKCG presented on Monday a slate of candidates for the group's board renewal, suggesting KKCG founder Karel Komarek as President and proposing to re-confirm Alberto Galassi as Chief Executive. "The proposed board aims to combine continuity, independence and international expertise to support the Group's next phase of development," KKCG said in a statement.
