POLITICS

U.S. President Donald Trump told an Italian newspaper on Tuesday he was "shocked" by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and had expected her to be more courageous, delivering a blunt public rebuke to one of his closest European allies.

ECONOMY

Bank of Italy releases February data on public finances, state borrowing and debt.

DEBT

The Italian Treasury is expected to sell on Wednesday two new dual-tranche syndicated 10- and 20-year BTP bonds.

The shareholders of Italy's third-largest lender meet to elect a new board, with the outgoing board recommending Fabrizio Palermo as the new CEO and a rival list of candidates endorsing Luigi Lovaglio's bid to be re-elected for the position. (0800 GMT)

Franco-Italian automaker Stellantis STLAM.MI said on Wednesday its global shipments rose 12% year-on-year in the first quarter to an estimated 1.4 million vehicles, consolidating a sales rebound that started in the second half of 2025.

The Italian lender is ready to drop its appeal against an Italian administrative court decision which had only partially accepted the bank's challenge against government terms set for its failed bid for Banco BPM BAMI.MI, daily la Repubblica reported on Wednesday. UniCredit had abandoned the bid in July, blaming the government conditions.

The oil and gas producer this week finished loading a 1-million-barrel cargo of Venezuelan heavy crude bound for Spain, the first the Italian company received in almost two years following the issuance of U.S. licenses freeing exports.

(*) The group's Italian broadcaster Mediaset is in talks to acquire rights for the Italian Open tennis tournament, rivalling offers from state broadcaster Rai and Sky's Tv8, financial daily Il Sole 24 Ore reported on Wednesday.
