TOKYO, March 27 (Reuters) - Kyushu Electric Power
9508.T has shut the No.4 reactor at its Genkai nuclear power
station in southern Japan for scheduled maintenance, a company
spokesperson said on Wednesday.
The 1,180-megawatt (MW) reactor was suspended early on
Wednesday and is scheduled to restart in June, the spokesperson
added.
While the No.4 reactor was in the process of reducing power,
an alarm sounded late on Tuesday, indicating uneven power levels
within the reactor, the company said in a statement.
But the alarm ceased after eight minutes, without causing
any radiation impact on the environment, the company added.
Meanwhile, Kansai Electric Power 9503.T has also shut the
1,180-MW No.3 reactor at its Ohi nuclear power station for
scheduled maintenance on Feb. 10, with a plan to reboot the
reactor in early April, a company spokesperson said.
With the shutdowns, Japan now has nine operating reactors
with a total capacity of 8,378 MW.
Many companies are still going through a relicensing
process to comply with stricter safety standards imposed after
the 2011 Fukushima disaster. The companies had 54 operational
reactors before the disaster.
The table below shows the status of Japan's nuclear power
