TOKYO, July 28 (Reuters) - Kansai Electric Power
 9503.T  restarted the 49-year-old No.1 reactor at its Takahama
nuclear power station in western Japan on Friday for the first
time since early 2011, a company spokesperson said.
    The 826-megawatt (MW) reactor has been shut since January
2011, just before the Fukushima nuclear disaster in March which
prompted Japan to idle most of its reactors and led the country
to impose stricter safety standards.
    The Takahama No.1 reactor, which started operations in 1974,
becomes the second case in Japan, following Kansai Electric's
Mihama No.3 reactor, to come back online after receiving special
approval to have its lifetime extended beyond the standard
40-year limit.
    Kyushu Electric Power  9508.T  also restarted the 890-MW
No.2 reactor at its Sendai nuclear power station in southwestern
Japan on July 17 after a two-month shutdown for maintenance and
refuelling, a spokesperson said on Friday.
    Following the restarts, Japan now has 11 reactors operating
with a combined capacity of 10,782 MW.
    Operators of many reactors are still going through a
relicensing process to comply with safety standards imposed
after the Fukushima disaster.  
    Nine regional power utilities and wholesaler Japan Atomic
Power Co (Japco) now have 33 reactors available for commercial
use, with a combined capacity of 33,083 MW. 
    The companies had 54 reactors operating before Fukushima.
    The table below shows the status of Japan's nuclear power
plants. 
    The regional utilities are: Chubu Electric Power  9502.T ,
Chugoku Electric Power  9504.T , Hokkaido Electric Power
 9509.T , Hokuriku Electric Power  9505.T , Kansai Electric
Power  9503.T , Kyushu Electric Power  9508.T , Shikoku Electric

Electric Power (Tepco)  9501.T .
