Table: Japan nuclear operations: Chugoku Electric shuts Shimane No.2 for maintenance

TOKYO, Feb 16 (Reuters) - Chugoku Electric Power 9504.T shut the 820-megawatt (MW) No.2 reactor at its Shimane nuclear power station in western Japan on February 9 for scheduled maintenance and refuelling, a company spokesperson said on Monday.

The unit is scheduled to restart in early August, the spokesperson said, adding that the maintenance period is longer than usual to accommodate construction work related to anti-terrorism upgrades.

Meanwhile, Tokyo Electric Power (TEPCO) 9501.T restarted the 1,356-MW No. 6 reactor at the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear power plant in northern Japan on February 9 after a malfunction caused a stoppage last month.

TEPCO shut down the No. 6 reactor after a malfunction was detected in late January, shortly after the unit went online for the first time in about 14 years.

Kyushu Electric Power 9508.T also shut the 890-MW No.2 reactor at its Sendai nuclear power station in southern Japan on January 24 for scheduled maintenance, with plans to bring it back online in late March, according to a company spokesperson.

Kansai Electric Power 9503.T shut the 826-MW No.2 reactor at its Takahama nuclear power station in western Japan on January 23 for scheduled maintenance, with plans to restart the unit in mid-June, a company spokesperson said.

As of Monday, Japan has 12 reactors in operation, with a combined capacity of 12,073 MW.

Many utilities are undergoing re-licensing to meet stricter safety standards implemented after the 2011 Fukushima disaster. Prior to the disaster, Japan operated a total of 54 reactors.

The table below shows the status of Japan's nuclear power plants.

The regional utilities are: Chubu Electric Power 9502.T, Chugoku Electric Power 9504.T, Hokkaido Electric Power 9509.T, Hokuriku Electric Power 9505.T, Kansai Electric Power 9503.T, Kyushu Electric Power 9508.T, Shikoku Electric Power 9507.T, Tohoku Electric Power 9506.T and Tokyo Electric Power (Tepco) 9501.T.

In the table, the companies are referred to by their regional names.

Japan Atomic Power Company (Japco), a nuclear energy company, owns two reactors.
