VATICAN

Cardinal Robert Prevost was elected in a surprise choice to be the new leader of the Catholic Church on Thursday, taking the name Leo XIV and becoming the first U.S. pontiff.

ECONOMY

ISTAT releases March industrial output data (0800 GMT); bulletin on the state of the economy in March and April (0900 GMT).

DEBT

Treasury sells 12-month BOT bills. Subscriptions close at 0900 GMT.

The Italian bank warned on Friday that risks linked to the hostile bid from Monte dei Paschi BMPS.MI would increase with its proposed merger with Banca Generali , after beating analyst estimates with its quarterly results.

The Tuscan lender on Friday posted a larger-than-forecast 24% rise in first-quarter profit as it pursues a hostile takeover of rival Mediobanca MDBI.MI in the consolidation wave sweeping Italian finance.

The Italian utility is focused on introducing a share buyback plan and negotiating an extension of its network licence in Italy, its top management said on Thursday after steady first-quarter results.

LEONARDO LDOF.MI

Italy's state-controlled defence and aerospace group reported a 12.2% jump in first-quarter EBITA to 211 million euros ($238.58 million) on Thursday, boosted by volume growth and increased profitability compared with the same period last year.

Leonardo CEO Roberto Cingolani said in a post-results call with analysts that the company had found an industrial partner for its aerostructures unit, and had filed a non-binding offer with Germany's Rheinmetall for the defence business of Iveco Group. IVG.MI

CAMPARI CPRI.MI

The Italian spirits group posted a decline in revenue and adjusted operating profit in the first quarter, well below analysts expectations, but confirmed its outlook for this year and the medium term.

STELLANTIS STLAM.MI

The carmaker has agreed with trade unions to implement up to 200 voluntary redundancies at its Termoli plant in central Italy, the company said on Thursday.

The company's board could be expanded - from nine to 11 members - to include representatives from its new leading shareholder Poste, Italian daily Il Sole 24 ore reported on Friday.

BREMBO BRBI.MI

The Italian brake maker guided on Thursday for a margin contraction this year, amid an "extremely challenging market context" for the automotive industry, after the premium brake maker reported a 13% fall in first-quarter core profit.

SNAM SRG.MI

Italy's gas grid group, which recently acquired a stake in Germany's fuel operator Open Grid Europe, reported on an 8% annual rise in its first-quarter adjusted core profit on Thursday.

MFE-MEDIAFOREUROPE MFEB.MI

The Italian media company said on Thursday it did not expect to get a majority stake in German group ProSiebenSat.1, as it announced the start of the acceptance period for its low-ball offer.

Gamma Intermediate, the group's main investor, on Friday said it had completed the sale of 26 million shares in Lottomatica, or 10.3% of the group's share capital, via an accelerated bookbuilding (ABB) at 19.10 euros per share, with total gross proceeds of 496.6 million euros ($557.48 million). Upon completion of the placement, Gamma will retain a stake of about 21.3%.
