Italy - Factors to watch on March 18

The following factors could affect Italian markets on Wednesday.

POLITICS

Italy's Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has turned to an unlikely platform in her push for a 'yes' vote in next week's justice referendum, joining an irreverent podcast hosted by a popular rapper in a bid to reach younger voters.

COMPANIES

The Italian energy company said on Wednesday it had reached a final investment decision for the development of the Geng North and Gendalo-Gendang gas projects, located offshore in the Kutei Basin in Indonesia's East Kalimantan province, within the Makassar Strait.

STELLANTIS STLAM.MI

The Franco-Italian carmaker said on Tuesday that deliveries to clients of its new DS 7 SUV, which will be manufactured at the automaker's Melfi plant in southern Italy, would start in the fourth quarter of this year.

The Italian tyremaker's CEO Andrea Casaluci said on Tuesday he was confident the government would a good solution regarding Pirelli's governance, in the company's interests, Italian news agency Radiocor reported.

A government decision on the matter is expected by April 15, newspapers La Stampa and Il Sole 24 Ore reported on Wednesday.

They said a decision is required soon because the U.S. has started mapping companies with significant Chinese shareholders, which will influence from which groups car producers buy components.

Czech investment group KKCG - which in February launched an offer on the yacht maker to double its 14.5% stake -  on Tuesday reiterated in a statement that it considered its offer fair. It also expressed concerns over the impartiality of the group's board, appointed by Weichai Group of China, which controls Ferretti.

The Italian utility is not discussing a tie-up with renewables group Erg, its Chief Executive Renato Mazzoncini said on Tuesday, after a newspaper report last month raised the prospect of a deal.

ACEA ACE.MI

French waste and water group Suez said on Wednesday it had reduced its stake in the Italian utility to around 19% from 23% through an accelerated bookbuild offering (ABO).

S&P on Tuesday confirmed the hearing aid group's rating at 'BB+' with a stable outlook after the company's 2.3-billion-euro offer for the hearing business of Denmark's GN Store Nord GN.CO.

On Wednesday Jefferies cut Amplifon's rating to 'hold' from 'buy' and cut the target price to 8 euros from 16 euros. Barclays cut the company's rating to 'equal-weight' from 'overweight' and cut the target price to 10 euros from 16 euros.

(*) The electrode maker said on Wednesday it expects adjusted annual core profit margins in the 15%-19% range for the next 3-5 years. "We are preparing to face a demanding year, marked by new and complex challenges" CEO Paolo Dellacha said on in a statement.

The slate of candidates for the Italian bank's board renewal drafted by majority shareholders is not expected to include Alessandro Decio, who has led the lender since April 2020, daily Il Sole 24 Ore reported on Wednesday.

It added that his name had been replaced with Vittorio Kuhn, former chief retail commercial banking officer at rival bank BPER EMII.MI.

RAI WAY RWAY.MI

Giampaolo Rossi, the chief executive of Italian state broadcaster RAI, which owns about 65% of the broadcasting tower operator, said on Tuesday any extension of talks on a possible merger with EI Towers would be announced when the current memorandum of understanding expires at the end of March.

Releases FY results (preliminary FY results released on January 29) followed by conference call (1330 GMT).
