Description: Asian markets stocks made slight gains while the euro hovered
just above parity against the dollar as investors awaited a highly anticipated
U.S. inflation report later in the global day. Crude oil prices have edged up
a day after falling through the $100 per barrel threshold for the first time
since April. Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has fled the country,
days after his presidential palace was invaded and hours before he was due to
step down, after a people's uprising over a devastating economic crisis ended
his family's powerful grip on the island nation. The Prime Minister declared a
state of emergency as several hundred people surrounded his office in Colombo
trying to breach the compound past police in riot gear, climbing the fences.
Police fired several rounds of teargas and a military helicopter circled
overhead.
