Issue of Ordinary Shares

AVI Japan Opportunity Trust PLC (the "Company") announces that it has today
issued 650,000 shares from treasury at a price of 181.20 pence per Ordinary
share and at a premium to the prevailing net asset value.

Following the issue of the Ordinary Shares, the Company's issued share
capital, shares held in treasury and the Total Voting Rights of the Company
are now as follows:

This figure (221,723,394) may be used by shareholders as the denominator for
